Buttonhole Wheel Cup Stitch

The challenge stitch this week for Take a Stitch Tuesday is a combination of buttonhole wheel and detached buttonhole stitches.  It ends up with a heavily textured stitch that stands away from the fabric.  I really like the way it looks and it was fun and easy to stitch.

The heart shaped wheel is stitched in variegated pearl cotton #5 and the detached collar in a heavier pearl #3.  The new stitching has been added to the same spirit figure as some previous TAST stitches.  This time I’ve included a picture of the head that will go on the doll.  He was made in a needle felting program from a while back with my doll club.  He’s been hanging on my design wall for a couple of years patiently waiting his turn.  Soon it will be his time to shine.

The needle felting was kind of fun, but after making five heads, I decided I would rather sew than needle felt.

I love the simple heart you made and how the doll is gradually taking form.

  2. It’s always worth experimenting with these techniques, isn’t it!

Your buttonhole wheel cup looks terrific as a heart and your needle felted head looks fabulous!

I like the heart. I didn’t think of any shape other than circles, but now I have some ideas to try out.
    Love the doll, too.
