Arrowhead Stitch

Time again for my weekly post on the Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge by pintangle.  This week’s stitch, arrowhead stitch, is a simple one that can be stitched in a line or as filling stitching.  I opted for a filling stitch.  I pulled out the spirit doll I’ve been using as an embroidery sampler and a variety of threads and added another layer of stitching.

I think they look like a flock of birds hovering over a mountainside.

I’ve used pearl cotton in sizes 3, 5, and 8 in five colors.  I like how the different thread sizes build some textural contrast.  The weave of the fabric is uneven in the warp which made it very difficult to line up the tops of the stitches in some areas.  Luckily, I like free-form rather than symmetry.

Your choice of colours for the Arrowhead stitches goes so well with the background fabric. This doll will have a very attractive body.

  2. The background fabric does make an interesting background, but it’s clearly not intended for embroidery – just as well you don’t want to do counted work!
